After I have finished writing this blog, it would be the first day of 2015. 🙂

So what had happened in the year of 2014? I lost Sunkiss in June unexpectedly. Like Miemi, he also taught me to live at every moment. I will not imagine myself riding a bicycle and carrying my beloved pets along, riding them to the beach and pitch a tent, spending time with my pets in the tent by the beach anymore… How unneccessary it seems to me now! I would just easily come home and spend time with them in my nice cozy home. No more bicycle, tent or by the beach. They will be erased from my mind and it will be my vehicle, home and an unobstructed scenery with all my cats. Past, present and future.

Sunkiss, a hyperactive cat with a baby’s body and a matured face is always in my heart and never once forgotten.

This photo was taken last December and the weather was cold. Sunkiss was sleeping. There was a pair of socks by his side, so I put it on for him pretending that it could keep him warm. How much I have missed and loved him!

Miemi! Mel and I had an adventure during Miemi’s first year anniversary. We were flying 孔明灯 and we were so frightened that the lantern would fly towards the flats and burn the estate down. 🙂

Piper had come to live a few days with us before she left. She was a brave and kind girl. If I see her again, she can be assured that she will have a forever home.

Another challenge was facing the stray dogs at Hougang. Snowy was killed. whenever I drive to the carpark, there will always be an image of her rushing towards to greet me. She never failed to be the first cat to come to me. That’s Snowy!

Snowy taught me to love the naughty ones.

Rescuing Yellow’s family.

They said that siblings will fight with one another when they grow up. However, the bond they have for one another still remains strong.

2015 now! I can see fireworks at JB from here. 🙂

The rescue of Sunshine and Blessed.

Blessed is the cats’ saviour in Hougang!

There are so much more to mention.

Overall, I had a meaningful 2014! There are still so much more to learn, so many to love and so many lives to save…

Three weeks ago, we brought Phoebe to the adoption drive at Vivo City. There were two adopters who were interested in adopting Phoebe. Yes, I think we were lucky to have two.

Finally, Phoebe has gone to her new home last Saturday. Her new Daddy and Mummy bought her a beautiful litter box, a sleeping cushion and two small bowls. They also bought her scratch post. On the day that I brought Phoebe to her new home, Phoebe right eye was tearing. I believe it was due to dust. The next day, her Mummy brought her to the vet. At least we know Phoebe’s owners are concern of her well being. Along the way, we taught them how to take care of Phoebe cos it is their first cat.

After Phoebe was sent to her new home, whenever I was preparing food for my furkids at home, I would attempt to prepare one for Phoebe. It happened for a few times and I realised that actually I missed Phoebe.

The day when we rescued Phoebe at the roof top. Mel suggested to released her. I remember when I saw Phoebe, her eyes were so huge and she was all so cute and I decided to rehome her instead of releasing her at the void deck.

She was with us since October this year. Taking care of her was not difficult. She is a good girl.

This is Phoebe at her new home. I hope her owners will love and take care of her forever. To allow her to roam freely at home always and to be able to attend to all her needs.

I wish Phoebe good health and always be happy!

Sunshine is not on any medication right now except RetroMAD1 and medimune supplement.

She has been doing very well. She is a mischievous girl who doesn’t behave like a lady. She is 10 months old already.

The last time we visited Dr Cheng at Allpets vet clinic, we were told by her that there is a high probability that Sunshine will recover from FeLV cos there were cases that kittens get to recover. The FeLV test changed from positive to negative. Right now, we are hoping for this. Dr Cheng advised us to give Sunshine another FeLV test after six months.

Sunshine is an extremely active girl, just like Sunkiss. That’s why we named her ‘Sun’ after Sunkiss. She always tries to sneak out from the room whenever we open the door. Her attempts were unsuccessful :). I will always spend some time to play with her every day. I am not taking her condition right now for granted. I just want to live at the moment with her.

There will be a follow up appointment with Dr Cheng next week for Sunshine and another follow up appointment with Dr Tharm on the following week. The follow up appointment with Dr Tharm is to make sure that sunshine’s major organs are working well. We want to make sure that Sunshine is doing well with the retroMAD.

Sunshine will have a smooth recovery :).

Two of my community cats were killed by a pack of stray dogs last month. I have seen the dogs and tried to shoo them away each and everytime I saw them. However, I was unable to protect all my community cats 24/7. I wish I could.

About three weeks ago, I was informed by a resident I know at my feeding area that there was a black limping injured dog resting around my feeding area. He was harmless.

I got my friend who stays there to check on him. I was told that the dog was limping on two feet, has skin problem and maggots crawling over his wound. He was all skinny and hungry. After learning about his condition, I felt that there was a need to trap this dog and send him to the vet cos I didn’t want him to suffer and feel painful out in the streets.

I engaged three trappers. First, Demy. He claimed that he was busy and should he pass by, he would help to trap. He was out definitely. Second, Vincent. He asked me to call SPCA to trap but SPCA does not provide such services and he gave me the same crap – busy. Out! Next, Richard. He took a long time to reply my message and in the end, he told me he was sick and hadn’t got any strength to trap the dog. Crap! And lastly, I engaged the infamous Michael.

I didn’t know him and never heard about him. However, I do know he is an AVA trapper. He didn’t give me any excuses and was willing to help me. He sounded helpful.

Besides Mel and I, the dog’s feeder was involved too and a friend of mine too. Finally, in less than two weeks, the dog was trapped. I believe the feeder was hired by SOSD as she managed to get in touch with a SOSD volunteer. SOSD was willing to pay the dog’s medical bill provided that we visit their specified clinics.

On the day when the dog was trapped, SOSD wanted the dog to be sent to Animal Infirmary. It was such a disappointment that the doctor in Animal Infirmary refused to take the dog in due to his fleas and ticks. What a low graded vet clinic! I despise them!

We had no choice but to bring the dog to another clinic on another day. Luckily Michael was kind enough to temporarily keep him in his farm. SOSD had specified that we were only allowed to send him to a few clinics. The SOSD volunteer decided to send the dog to Monster Pet vet clinic but not on the next day. It was on the fourth day that the appointment had been made with Dr Song.

I reminded the feeder to be around at the clinic. However, the feeder did not turn up and did not even inform me. I was both angry and upset. How can a feeder who has been feeding the dog for so many years just leave the dog alone and not show her love and concern?

The feeder said Dr Song would call her and keep her updated on the dog’s condition. The advice from Dr Song was to put the dog to sleep. The feeder called me and even persuaded me to put the dog to sleep, telling me that it was too expensive to save the dog and the dog was suffering and he had kidney failure and etc. Upon hearing it, I too agreed to put the dog to sleep.

Michael called me to tell me the news. He told me when the dog was with him, he was able to eat and sleep and his maggot has even recovered. Immediately, I called the feeder to double check with her, still, the feeder insisted on putting the dog to sleep.

I was glad that Michael took matters in his own hand and drove the dog away. I asked Michael to give the dog a second opinion. Michael arranged an appointment at AMK United on the next day. This time it had nothing to do with SOSD anymore. Whatever the bill is, it will be from our own pocket.

This is the dog, he is named Blessed by his fosterer. Sometimes I call him Seer(舍). Dr Anu from AMK United was taking charge of Blessed. A blood test was done. Blessed’s liver and kidney were perfectly fine. His red blood cell count was slightly lower than normal. Dr Anu said his illness is treatable. Blessed eats and sleeps well.

His fosterer cooked him chicken soup and brown rice and visited him everyday. She is dedicated and Mel and I are glad and appreciate the way the fosterer is taking care of him.

I hope to see Blessed getting well and stronger each and everyday. After he is discharged from the hospital, he would neither have to live under the sun nor in the rain and there will be food for him every day.

Blessed’s feeder has not contacted me since, neither did the volunteer from SOSD show any concern…

There are many things that I have learnt from this rescue operation. Things that we are too blind to see or notice….

During the last four weeks, Sunshine was prescribed with steroid, antibiotic, iron and medimune supplements and EPREX injection. Steroid and antibiotic had to be taken twice a day, iron and medimune supplements once a day and EPREX injection three times per week.

I have learnt how to administer medicine to cats when Miemi was sick. I have learnt so much. Thanks to my beloved Miemi:). However, to give injection to cats, hmm…I am unable to do it. Even though it is for the wellness of Sunshine, I am still unable to bring myself to do it. Luckily, Mel was around. She helped with the injection and she did well. However, she didnt think so and suggested that we send Sunshine to the vet and let the professionals do it! Actually I felt the same way too:).

Sunshine had a blood test after two weeks and had another one after two weeks again that was last Saturday. Sunshine’s condition has improved so much. She has put on 400g.

This week I need not feed her twice a day. The dosage of her medications have reduced to once a day and EPREX, twice a week.

Mel and I also brought her to Allpets vet clinic at Jalan Kayu for a new drug called, RetroMAD1, that is on trial worldwide. I started to give her this evening and Sunshine didn’t seem to like it.

IMG_1743.JPG

At this point, to be able to see Sunshine jumping around and eating well, I am really very happy,

With RetroMAD1, I hope Sunshine’s immune system will grow stronger.

Every time after feeding Sunshine medicine, I would give Sunshine lots of treats. Whenever I am getting Sunshine’s medicine, Sunshine would come right to me cos she knows treats await her after she takes her medicine. So feeding her medicine is easy :).

Everything looks positive at the moment and I hope Sunshine grows strong each and every day.
