Just like any of us, the pigeons want to be happy as well. They definitely need food and water like us and I’ve seen them playing as well.

It was after a heavy downpour and a small pool of water had formed on the ground. Several pigeons dipped themselves into the water. Their happiness and safety are my happiness and safety… Sadly, they were rounded up by the authorities. Nothing was left but only wonderful memories of them teaching me to cherish life, be present and be strong.

We must understand the importance of coexistence!

Fledglings hardly survive without their mummy. The fledgling in the photo was no exception. I walked to where she rested every night, always hoping she would be safe and sound and praying that I could see her every day. Then one early evening, she was found lying motionless on the road. I placed her aside and gave her my best wishes.

The surviving rate for fledglings is very low. Based on my experience, I’ve tried helping them and out of seven, only one survived…

Let us give them a chance to live and at the same time, we’re also allowing ourselves to thrive better.

I felt helpless when these pigeons were trapped, intended to be gassed. There was nothing I could do but to take photos and videos to expose the inhumane measures that our authorities have taken. They were harmless pigeons who were hungry all the time. Like everybody else, all they wanted was food. Humans are becoming more and more selfish. We find almost everything intolerable. When we find anything that we’re unhappy about, we want to get rid of it. Every action has its consequences. There is no exception to this. Those who did not kill with their own hands but gave support and encouragement would also receive what had been done to others .

Whenever I look at this video, I see their innocent eyes. They were helpless and didn’t know what was going to happen to them and it hurts me so much that all I could do was to take videos and photos. I wanted so much to release them… but I couldn’t. Their voices need to be heard and I will be their voice.

The videos and photos were posted on social media. I want people to know they were treated unfairly and humane methods should be used. It really was unnecessary to kill them. We do not need to go to such extremes.

The place was like a dead town after they were being trapped. The residents seemed to be angry with the authorities as more food were being thrown out of their windows. There are many people who actually love the pigeons, they just don’t know how to voice their concerns. Pigeon feeders were blamed for the killing. Little does NParks know that they are the ones who push the people to feed them. The more they kill, the more the residents empathise with the pigeons and at the same time hate the authorities. Our authorities may continue to brainwash us, but those who have done good by feeding them understand there truly is no or not enough food for the pigeons. NParks lacks compassion. They are theory based. When compassion is lacking, one cannot fully understand and accept the views of others.

What’s my plan ahead? It may not be a big plan with a big influence. I’ll do it little by little. I’ll carry on caring for the pigeons. Their voices will be consistently heard. When the time is right, I’ll write to the MP again.

We need to coexist with other species. We’re not alone and Earth belongs to everyone. Live compassionately. Choose love over killing.

Below is the description of using carbon dioxide to kill them. This is the humane method that NParks claimed.

“In a seminar presented at the US Department of Agriculture on December 16, 2004, Dr. Mohan Raj, Senior Research Fellow in the Farm Animal Division of the School of Clinical Veterinary Science at the University of Bristol in England, described the effects of CO2 on the body. CO2 induces breathlessness – a subjective distress in breathing known as dyspnea. According to Dr. Raj, dyspnea in both birds and mammals “activates brain regions associated with pain and induces an emotional response of panic.”

This is because, while CO2 increases the rate and depth of breathing to expel CO2 from the lungs, breathing actually increases the intake of CO2, and thus the desire to breathe to expel the noxious CO2 gas causes slow, painful suffocation.”

We often see the fault of others. If we could look more into ourselves, our world would be more at peace. There wouldn’t be you or I, yours or mine and theirs or ours because we all are on the same boat where nothing truly belongs to us!

We often do not have the habit of rejoicing for others. Rejoicing for others for what they already had or the fortune they receive is always a great joy we feel deep inside. It is that happiness I find it valuable.
