While I was walking at Toa Payoh Central, a pigeon who seemed to be hungrily hunting for food captured my sight. She loitered outside the coffeeshop, hoping she could peck a tiny bit of food on the ground. She was limping and has the worst feet that I’ve ever seen. Strings are the cause for the pigeons’ broken feet. It must be very painful, very very painful for its feet to be cut away by a string.

I wish I could adopt her, help her and provide her with everything she needs. At that moment, I just wish she has enough to eat. May her stomach be filled with enough food and clean water every day.

There will be more pigeons and crow trapping and killing at Toa Payoh and Toa Payoh Central is one of them. My heart was heavy upon receiving the news. I visited Bishan Toa Payoh Facebook to check it out. Indeed more killing is on its way.

According to the post, the purpose of killing them is to provide a better space and a good quality of life for the residents. My immediate response was “humans are stupid”. How could killing birds provide a better space and good quality of life for the people. Only with the reducing of building buildings and cutting down of the human population would provide a better space and a good quality of life for the people.

I often tell Toofy, the cat, that he must always share space and food with other cats. It would be a shame to have the idea of not sharing space with other species! May the future generations not learn from them.

I’m helpless that I couldn’t get the authorities to stop killing. Having understood the cause and effect allows me to relieve my pain. I hope in one way or another, I’m able to influence others into coexisting with other species. Hopefully one day, we could all live harmoniously.

The respect I used to have for PAP is gone. Greed is all I see in them. My friend asked me how to have more supporters like PAP, I told her that it is through lying and making promises. Disagreement doesn’t mean that I have bad wishes for them. It simply means that I will not support them.

I attended Jane Goodall’s talk the other day. She said she’ll be the voice for the voiceless until her body wears out. Same here. I’ll be the voice for the animals until my body wears out!

This happened about two hours ago. When a group of pigeons is being killed, pigeons from other areas fly and settle here. There is no over-population of pigeons in Singapore, they only congregate in certain areas.

The pigeons were struggling very hard to free themselves, unwilling to be trapped and killed. Just like us. Mdm Law reminded me, when humans are afraid of death, animals suffer as a result. It is always easy to blame.

In the process of trapping, one of the trappers said that I am mentally ill. I reported this to NParks. Believe me, there is no one you can trust when humans have killing on their mind. Today, those who kill are the good ones, those who save are seen as the bad ones.

I hope there will be more Jane Goodall in the future and the fight continues!

Again, I was looking for my community cats at the multistorey carpark and I saw familiar faces from NParks walking towards Blk 196, Kim Keat Avenue. I’ve never thought that they were here to trap the pigeons again because the last trapping was done in early July. Moreover, pigeons aren’t populous here.

NParks contractors baiting the pigeons to the trap by scattering food.
Pigeons refused to walk into the trap.

I took videos and photos as usual. No matter how hard  pigeons were baited into the trap, they refused to go in.

I could see the frustration coming from NParks. Unable to trap the pigeons, NParks called the police. The police had nothing on me simply because I was only filming and I have every right to film whatever I want.

The arrival of police car.

Being unable to trap the pigeons, they shifted the trap to Blk 195.

As you can see, there weren’t a lot of pigeons, yet NParks still proceeded to trap them. This made me realise that once again, our government has fooled the public into believing that one of the reasons for killing the pigeons is overpopulation!

NParks continued to move to another side of Blk 195. There were two pigeons whom I had noticed for a few days. One with its foot entangled with string and leaf stem, and the other with a broken wing.

Instead of helping the pigeons in need, they continue to kill.

In the video, the one who tried hard to escape the trap was the pigeon with its foot entangled with strings and leaf stem. The one with the broken wing simply collapsed next to it. It was so painful to watch and I cried hard while filming, and the humans were laughing at me. This made me realise that there truly are people with unkind hearts. A heart that wants and encourages others to kill.

NParks continued to move and set traps, but only two birds approached the food. Sensing something was not right, both flew away. With this, NParks ended their trapping for the day.

Instead of leaving, I caught two NParks staff moving up the multistorey car park where our community cats rest. Are they going to poison the cats like they did at Meiling Street? I don’t know. Nothing good can come from whatever they’re planning. I yelled at them to get lost and told them they were bringing shame to their parents by engaging in such work. This was the furthest I could go to tell them off. Always reminding myself not to curse anyone, though I was very, very angry—angry enough to feel like smacking all of them. But would doing that help? Unlikely… I would only injure my fist.

Since NParks failed to trap the pigeons at Blk 196, I believe they will need to come back to complete the trapping and killing. I hope that one day, I won’t have to film such videos ever again.
