Metta and acupuncture.

10/05/2025 by A learning buddhist...

Metta, the happiest cat in the house has injured her legs or perhaps her spine. We don’t know how she hurt herself but we suspect that she must have fallen down or landed carelessly jumping from the cat stand.

More than a month ago, I found her walking weirdly with her tail drooping and both her hind legs seemed to be sticking closely together and both feet were folded inwards instead of lying flat on the ground while walking.

We sent her to the vet the next day. Her X-ray and blood test were good. Vet said her legs were weak and it could be due to her weight or fall. The solution was to limit her activities and keep her in an enclosed area and let it healed by itself.

After a few days of observation, Metta’s feet deteriorated and we decided to send her for acupuncture. Metta already had three sessions of acupuncture and it showed improvement.

Metta is a good girl. She has to sit still for half an hour in order for the acupuncture to take its effect. Now she is able to walk with her feet lying flat on the ground. It’s a slight improvement and we are happy with the results. This Saturday would be her fourth session.

X-ray and running a blood test are necessary before we decide what treatment to give her. We are very thankful to Dr Anu who has always support us and Dr Pang who is very skilful in TCM. All of my cats who had spine injuries were all treated by Dr Pang successfully!

  • I highly recommend reading the sutta translated by Piya Tan. His "Laymen Saints" has been an inspiration to many lay people.
